Asked if this was a temporary or long-term solution for Gaza, where Israel's military assault has caused a dire humanitarian situation and killed tens of thousands, Trump said on Saturday: "Could be either."

DeepSeek's AI assistant recently topped the list of free iPhone apps on Apple's app store. (It wasn't in the top 10 on Alphabet's Google Play store, though it is listed there. In Apple's store, the app ranked higher than ChatGPT; not so on Google.
DeepSeek, a Chinese startup founded by hedge fund manager Liang Wenfeng, was founded in 2023 in Hangzhou, China, the tech hub home to Alibaba and many of China’s other high-flying tech giants.
The company says its latest AI model released earlier this month offers performance that is on par with that of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Anything vaguely related to artificial intelligence was smashed on Monday after investors spent the weekend frantically googling DeepSeek-R1, the low-cost Chinese AI model released last week.
The new generative-AI model, which claims performance on a comparison with OpenAI’s latest, stuck a knife into two beliefs that have come to dominate investment in the past two years.
First, that AI needs massive amounts of new infrastructure, energy and microchips, mostly from Nvidia. And second, that the winners of AI will be the dominant American technology companies.
